'Be a light for other people. Live so they will see the good things that you do'

Matthew Chapter 5 Verse 16

Our Vision:

Building on our shared Christian values, we empower every unique person in our school community to be a light for other people; to be lifelong learners equipped to embrace the opportunities of the future and make the world a better place to live.

On behalf of the staff, children and governors I would like to extend  a very warm welcome to Westwoodside  Church of England Academy.

Our school is an inclusive, compassionate and friendly school, situated in the heart of the village of Westwoodside. We are located on the Isle of Axholme, between Scunthorpe and Doncaster. Our school is served by the parish of St Nicholas, Haxey. Our school motto 'let your light shine' drives a culture of care, respect and hope. As a dedicated, hardworking staff team we aim to provide a rounded education underpinned by our Christian values of

“Love Compassion Friendship Hope Respect Perseverance and Thankfulness”.

Whilst in our care your children will develop a love of learning and will become lifelong inquisitive learners. We are proud that we have strong academic attainment and that our children make good progress across their time at our school; this is a result of high expectations of teaching and learning by skilled staff. We have carefully planned our curriculum to ensure that it is meaningful, motivating and relevant to our children however, we understand that not all learning takes place at a desk, and we enhance our curriculum with relevant hands on learning, trips and experiences to provide our children with a broad and balanced education.

We encourage all of our children to live a healthy life, and are very proud of our track record in promoting sport and physical activities in our school. We hold four School Games Marks at Gold Level and a Sport Promoting School Award. We offer a wide variety of sports through high quality PE sessions and work with a large number of other groups to provide before and after school activity clubs.

This website offers an insight into our school and illustrates the vision we work hard to deliver. Our Ofsted inspection in March 2020  graded our school as GOOD in all areas, and in June 2022 our SIAMS report graded us as a GOOD Church School.

If you would like to find out more about our school please get in touch to arrange a visit. This will enable you to get a greater understanding of how our school works, the behavior of our children and our standards and expectations.
