Westwoodside C of E Academy – Remote Education Information
This information explains what pupils and parents/carers can expect if local restrictions require whole classes or year groups to learn from home. We use Google Classroom for Years 1–6 and Tapestry for EYFS.
The Remote Curriculum – What Pupils Will Learn at Home
On the first day of remote education, pupils will see a welcome message and clear instructions from their class teacher on Google Classroom (or Tapestry for EYFS).
Pupils will follow learning that matches the curriculum in school as closely as possible. Lessons will focus on key skills in reading, writing and maths, with additional tasks and optional activities to explore.
Every task will include:
- A learning objective
- Steps to success
- Any teaching resources needed
Daily Learning Expectations
Primary-aged pupils should expect approximately 3–4 hours of learning each day.
This includes online teaching, independent work and any additional tasks.
How to Access Remote Learning
- All learning for Years 1–6 is on Google Classroom.
- EYFS learning is shared on Tapestry.
If you cannot log in or need help accessing your child’s account, please contact the school office.
Support for Pupils Without Devices or Internet
We will support pupils who cannot access remote learning by:
- Loaning school Laptops where needed
- Providing paper packs if digital access is not possible
- Making regular phone calls to arrange support or deliver resources
Please contact the office if you need help with devices or internet access.
How We Teach Pupils Remotely
We use a range of approaches, including:
- Recorded lesson introductions or teacher voiceovers
- Presentations, teaching videos and slides
- Worksheets, templates and tasks to complete in exercise books
- Online learning platforms such as Mathletics
- Printed work packs where required
- Reading books or reading tasks set at the correct level
Engagement and Feedback
Expectations for Pupils and Parents/Carers
- Pupils should engage with the learning set each day.
- Keeping a simple daily routine will help your child succeed.
- All submitted work will be acknowledged, and pupils will receive praise or feedback.
Checking Engagement
- Teachers monitor engagement daily.
- If a pupil is not completing work or responding, the teacher will call home.
- Continued lack of engagement will be followed up by the DSL, Deputy Headteacher, or Headteacher.
How We Give Feedback
- Teachers will respond through comments, uploaded photographs or whole-class feedback.
- Some tasks (e.g., quizzes) may mark automatically.
Support for Pupils with SEND
We know that some pupils with SEND may need extra support. We will:
- Monitor engagement closely
- Provide adapted tasks where needed
- Offer additional check-ins with staff
- Provide support from our Pastoral Lead for pupils identified as vulnerable
If an individual pupil is isolating but the rest of the class is in school:
- Teachers will share the same resources being used in the classroom where possible.
- There will not be live lessons or recorded teaching due to staff workload and well-being.
- Feedback may take longer as teachers are also teaching in school.
