Art at Westwoodside Academy

Subject Intent Statement:

At Westwoodside Church of England Primary Academy we value Art as an important part of a child’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Our art curriculum is accessible to all and provides all of our children with opportunities to aim high and express their own ideas, creative thinking, and explore their own unique individual tastes, styles and interests.  We deliver a high-quality engaging art curriculum which inspires and challenges our children,  equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to experiment, invent, create and improve their own works of art, craft and design and love what they create. We want our children to be able to reflect using appropriate vocabulary to critique and have the confidence to comment  on their own work, and that of their peers and of the wider art world. Children also learn how artists, craft makers and designers both reflect and shape our history, local, national and international, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
