At Westwoodside C of E Academy, we are developing creative, confident and resourceful thinkers and problem solvers through an inspiring, rigorous and practical Design Technology curriculum. We intend to provide a real-life context for learning, where our pupils are challenged to solve real and relevant problems in a variety of contexts; considering their own needs, desires and values and those of others. Working both independently and collaboratively, the children will gain experience of the design process: researching past and present technologies; disassembling existing products; designing in response to a design brief; and building and evaluating their own products. Our aim is to provide a design technology curriculum that is broad and balanced; coherently planned and sequenced with strong cross-curricular links to Mathematics, Science, Computing and Art, which will develop analytical thinking skills, confidence, resilience and perseverance. Through provision of opportunities, experiences and responsibilities, we are creating the designers, engineers, chefs and architects of the future – life-long learners working to make a difference to the world around them.
