Computing at Westwoodside Academy

Subject Intent Statement:

At Westwoodside C of E Primary Academy we are developing thinkers of the future. Through a modern, ambitious and relevant computing curriculum, designed to give all learners the cultural capital they need to succeed, we intend to enable our pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to be active participants in the digital world. We recognise that it is important that the children have the understanding to use the ever-changing technology available to them: to express themselves; as tools for future learning; and to move into the future workplace. Through exploring aspects of E-safety, we intend to: equip them to understand the advantages and disadvantages associated with online experiences; and enable them to be respectful, responsible and confident users of technology aware of how to protect themselves online. Our aim is to provide a computing curriculum that is: broad and balanced; coherently planned and sequenced to ensure a progression of skills and knowledge that the pupils can then apply in all areas of the curriculum; and developing the skills to problem solve creatively.

“…it was fun; we made pictures and they came to life with sounds…”

“…we programed them to go forwards, backwards, right and left. You have to remember to do it all in order. That was my favourite…”
